The lake, in plain talk.

Ruth writes this every Monday from what came through the door and what the boats said on the way home. It is a demo report. It is not a Kentucky Fish and Wildlife bulletin.

Clear green Lake Cumberland water at dawn, with a limestone bluff and wooded hills.
The south end of the lake, where most of our folks fish.

Walleye

Steady for the boats that stayed with it.

Where. Main-lake points off Mill Springs and the Otter Creek side

How. Nightcrawler harness on a bottom bouncer, slow troll, 28 to 38 feet. Shiners if you would rather drift a live bait.

Crappie

Good when you sit on the brush. Wax worms are low.

Where. Brush in Otter Creek and the mouth of Indian Creek

How. Minnows or a 1/16 ounce jig, 10 to 16 feet, early and late. Chartreuse and white are leaving the peg first.

Striper

Schooling at daylight. It gets quiet once the sun is up.

Where. Lower creek arms, early, where the bait is balled up

How. White bucktails, or live shad while the tank lasts. Frozen packs if we sell the live ones out.

Bass

The first hour is the whole trip.

Where. Rocky banks and points under the limestone, both largemouth and smallmouth

How. Topwater or a spinnerbait at dawn, then a jig once they slide off the bank.

Summer pool on Lake Cumberland is 723 feet. This week's demo level sits under that, which is normal for late October. Call the shop if you want Ruth to talk you onto a ramp before you burn the gas.
